Ashcreek

Ashcreek occupies the western tier of Southwest Portland's forest belt, bordering Washington County to the west and I-5 to the south, with the hilly, creek-fed terrain that gives the neighborhood its name. Many of its homes are craftsman and bungalow-style, built in the 1920s and 30s, sitting on quiet streets that dead-end into forested slopes or connect to the trail network toward Tryon Creek State Natural Area.

Ashcreek is notable among Portland neighborhoods for its Scandinavian cultural presence. Nordia House (8800 SW Oleson Rd) — the home of Nordic Northwest — opened in June 2015 as a Nordic cultural center for the Pacific Northwest's Scandinavian community. The center hosts an exhibit hall with traveling Nordic art exhibitions, a Great Hall for events, the Broder Söder Swedish cafe, and the Nordic Finn Ware gift shop. It is one of the only ethnic cultural centers embedded within a primarily residential SW Portland neighborhood.

Garden Home Dugout, a sports bar on the Barbur corridor, serves as an informal neighborhood gathering spot. Ploy's Thai Food is a local favorite for dining. Residents can see Coast Range views from Dickinson Park and access Tryon Creek trails via walking paths that begin within the neighborhood. The Ashcreek-Crestwood Neighborhood Association governs both adjacent neighborhoods and meets regularly through the SWNI coalition structure.
