About
Crestwood is one of Southwest Portland's smaller official neighborhoods, tucked west of SW Barbur Blvd and south of SW Taylors Ferry Rd. The neighborhood is characterized by a wooded, semi-rural quality that belies its Portland city limits address — a quality rooted in its two large parks: Dickinson Park and the 36-acre Woods Memorial Natural Area.
Woods Memorial Park is Crestwood's crown jewel — 36 acres of mixed forest with trails maintained by the Friends of the Woods Memorial Park volunteer group. The natural area provides habitat corridors for wildlife and a quiet escape for residents. Dickinson Park serves as the neighborhood's more active recreational space. Together, these two parks give Crestwood a distinctive green identity that overshadows its modest commercial footprint.
Crestwood Neighborhood Association (formally joined with Ashcreek as the Ashcreek-Crestwood Neighborhood Association) meets on the 2nd Wednesday of odd months. The neighborhood is coordinated through SWNI and shares many community resources with the adjacent Ashcreek neighborhood. Residents access commercial services primarily along SW Barbur Blvd and the Tigard border area, with I-5 providing regional connectivity.
Boundaries: Bordered by SW Barbur Blvd to the east, SW Taylors Ferry Rd to the north, the Tigard city limits / Washington County to the west and south. Adjacent to Marshall Park, Ashcreek, and the Tigard border.
The Vibe
Crestwood is quiet, green, and unpretentious, a small southwest neighborhood where the streets follow the land and the trees do most of the talking. The pace is slow and residential.
It suits households looking for a calm hillside base with easy access toward both downtown and the western suburbs.
History
Crestwood is a small residential neighborhood in Portland's far southwest, set among the hills and creek valleys that define this corner of the city. Its name evokes the wooded ridges that rise through the area, and like its neighbors it grew up gradually as the city's southwestern edge filled in.
Development here was shaped by the hilly terrain and a preference for quiet, low-density living. Homes went up along curving streets through the postwar decades, set among mature trees that still give the neighborhood much of its character.
Today Crestwood remains a modest, settled residential pocket, often grouped with its Ashcreek and Arnold Creek neighbors as part of southwest Portland's leafy hillside fabric.
