About

Grant Park

Grant Park takes its name from the expansive public park at its heart, which spans nearly 20 acres and holds an outdoor pool, basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields, a running track, tennis courts, picnic areas, a dog off-leash area, and a community garden. The neighborhood's housing stock — predominantly Old Portland and Craftsman styles dating from the early 20th century — lines quiet, tree-shaded streets that have changed little since Beverly Cleary roamed them as a child in the 1920s and 30s.

Beverly Cleary grew up in Grant Park, attending its schools and haunting its library, and she immortalized the neighborhood in her beloved Ramona and Henry Huggins series. Klickitat Street, named for the local Klickitat tribe, is a real street within the neighborhood and serves as the fictional address of Ramona Quimby and Henry Huggins. The Beverly Cleary Sculpture Garden in Grant Park features bronze statues of Henry, his dog Ribsy, and Ramona. The neighborhood is bordered by Alameda and Beaumont-Wilshire to the north, Irvington to the west, Rose City Park to the east, and Hollywood District and Laurelhurst to the south, giving residents easy access to the commercial vibrancy of those adjoining areas.

Boundaries: Bordered by NE Prescott St to the north, NE 33rd Ave to the west, NE Broadway and Sullivan's Gulch to the south, and NE 47th Ave to the east
