Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights is unlike any other Portland neighborhood: its approximately 300 single-family homes are set entirely within the boundaries of Washington Park, terraced at elevations up to 1,000 feet with iconic views of the city skyline and the Cascade Range. To live in Arlington Heights is to live inside a world-class urban park — a circumstance that creates both extraordinary amenity and unusual challenges around parking, traffic, and community identity.

Washington Park's major attractions are all, in a literal sense, Arlington Heights' neighbors: the Oregon Zoo (4001 SW Canyon Rd), the Portland Japanese Garden (611 SW Kingston Ave), the International Rose Test Garden (400 SW Kingston Ave), the Hoyt Arboretum (4000 SW Fairview Blvd), the World Forestry Center (4033 SW Canyon Rd), and the Oregon Holocaust Memorial. The MAX Blue and Red lines stop at Washington Park Station — the deepest transit station in North America at 260 feet below ground — making the neighborhood transit-accessible despite its hillside location.

The Arlington Heights Neighborhood Association meets on the second Monday of most months and has been actively involved in issues of visitor traffic management, Zoo Train restoration, and public transit access. The association coordinates through the Northwest District Association rather than SWNI, reflecting the neighborhood's geographic position on the western edge of the NW/SW boundary.
