History
Beaumont-Wilshire developed as a residential district in Northeast Portland during the streetcar era and the building booms of the 1910s through the 1930s. The neighborhood took shape around the commercial spine of Northeast Fremont Street, which grew into a compact business district serving the surrounding homes.
The area filled in with the comfortable single-family houses that still characterize it, and Wilshire Park was established as a generous green space on the neighborhood's northern edge. Over the decades Beaumont-Wilshire settled into a stable, family-oriented identity.
Today it remains a desirable residential neighborhood, anchored by the walkable Fremont business district and known for its well-kept homes and tree-lined streets.
