About
Wilsonville is a city of approximately 26,000 residents at the southern edge of the Portland metro area, occupying the junction of I-5 and Interstate 205 in Clackamas County near the Yamhill County line. The city was incorporated in 1968 and grew rapidly in the 1990s and 2000s as a planned bedroom community and light-industrial hub, becoming home to major employers including Mentor Graphics (now Siemens EDA), Xerox, and Precision Castparts.
The commercial heart of Wilsonville is anchored by Argyle Square, a 380,000-square-foot regional shopping center built in 2003–2004 on 43 acres, with nearly 30 nationally known retailers. Old Town Square at the intersection of SW Wilsonville Road and SW Boones Ferry Road is anchored by Fred Meyer and surrounded by restaurants and service retailers. The Wilsonville Town Center loop adds significant density: RAM Restaurant & Brew House (29800 SW Boones Ferry Rd), Boston's Pub & Grill (29890 SW Town Center Loop), Canton Phoenix, and Rice Time Oriental Grill provide dining variety. Oswego Grill's Wilsonville location brings the popular Lake Oswego chain to the south metro.
Wilsonville's most distinctive character element is Wanker's Corner Saloon & Cafe at 8499 SW Main St — a roadside institution with a name that has generated national media attention, operating continuously since 1934 as a neighborhood tavern that predates the city itself. The Wilsonville Summer Concerts series and the Clackamas County Fair grounds nearby reflect the city's community-event culture. SMART Bus connects Wilsonville directly to Salem and to TriMet's regional network.
