About
Old Town Lake Oswego is the original commercial core of the city, concentrated along First Street and State Street a block from the shore of Oswego Lake. The district was developed in the early 20th century as the town transitioned from its iron-industry roots to a residential suburb of Portland, and its distinctive Tudor Revival commercial architecture — a deliberate design choice reinforced by city codes — gives it the look of a small European lakefront town.
Today Old Town is Lake Oswego's culinary and retail heart. Holy Taco (345 1st St) anchors the casual dining scene with authentic Mexican food and a loyal local following. Pizzeria sul Lago (315 1st St) occupies a prime position on Millennium Plaza overlooking the lake, while Nicoletta's Table and Marketplace (333 S State St) serves Italian-inspired comfort food in a neighborhood-institution setting. Oswego Village, an 86,000-square-foot center on State Street anchored by Whole Foods Market and Ace Hardware, provides daily-needs retail immediately adjacent.
The Willamette Valley Vineyards tasting room brings wine-country culture to the downtown corridor, and Millennium Plaza Park provides the lakeside public gathering space that defines Old Town's social identity. The Lakewood Center for the Arts, housed in a 1925 building, contributes performing arts programming year-round. Historic markers for nine buildings trace the iron ore company heritage that built the city.
