Reviews from Google
More reviews on GoogleI feel bad about leaving this place 3 stars, because I actually really like the pastries, food, coffee and fresh bread. All of their products are really good. Pricey, but good. However the service has gotten really bad recently. I’ve been coming here for many years. And in the past couple of years or so I’ve pretty consistently been getting attended by very unfriendly and low-key rude employees. They never smile. They never ask how you are. They usually don’t say “thank you” or “have a good day”. (And I try to do all of these things.) I just went here recently and all of these things happened. I said “thank you” loudly to make sure the young lady heard me and was met with complete silence. It’s quite uncomfortable when you try to be polite/nice to service workers but get no reciprocity. And every time you pay the tablet screen gives you a tip prompt. What am I tipping for? To be treated rudely by some snotty twenty-something who seemingly doesn’t want to be there and seems to dislike the fact that I am?
You all are truly my favorite! I have the best experiences with you FOH and Sandwich staff. I eat your bread, your pastries, your sandwiches multiple times per week. That being said, it would be a great idea for the baker with a mustache who stands BOH but right at the window, to speak somewhat quieter when he’s complaining about the $400 puffer jacket the 75 year old woman in front of me was wearing in the rain. I totally understand frustration with our economy but it turns out that purchasing sustainable items from businesses that support the environment and their employees while providing great quality aren’t inexpensive; ironically just like Grand Central Bread. Secondly, she’s 75 or so so maybe just park your opinion until the whole cafe doesn’t have to hear you. I love you guys and love the quality, service and food you serve. Thanks for reading!
I was disappointed. The only thing that was yummy and worth the price was the pumpkin muffin, which I would get again. But.. The Bacon and egg croissant was dry and overcooked. The salmon sandwich; the bread was good. But it was soggy ish from the slaw and could hardly tell there was cream cheese on it. The coffees was delicious. Bathroom was dirty and needed a deep cleaning. Staff was super sweet. We spent close to $50 not worth it.
Always a must-have when in PDX or Laurelhurst! The staff here are always incredibly kind, energetic, and super hardworking and quick! Overall wonderful atmosphere!
