I went on Sunday, 2/15/26, and it was pretty empty. There is so much to see. I was only able to spend three hours 10-3 looking at Modern, level 4, and photography, level 2, but there is so much more. Plan on staying 2 days.

More reviews on GoogleWe were exploring Portlands river walk, had turned inland and discovered the Art Musuem. What a wonderful Musuem. Recently remodeled, the museum has sweet flow from exhibit room to exhibit room. It was first Thursday so there were specail events and later hours. We participated in an interesting / fun art discussion . These were happening with various pieces throughout the day. It was a great unexpected topping to our day.
Whoa!!! Wow!!! This place is magnificent. From the entrance where security is right at the door to greet you and direct you to the desk where everyone at that desk is the best. Everyone had a welcoming smile. All of the exhibits were breathtaking including the room where you lay down in the beds without shoes. The video was something else to see. The artwork definitely is inspiring and gives a sense that real creativity is still alive. Definitely worth the price to go again.
The new and expanded museum is wonderful! I love the flow and energy of the floor plan now. Very user-friendly and there’s little rooftop patios with views and sculptures. The Rothko room is a worthy tribute to Portland’s own. I wish we had more of his works. Exciting to see his early stuff. The best exhibit currently is Native American artist Rick Bartow, his big engaging sculptures, paintings and pastels. The documentary video of Bartow is worth watching while you’re in there. The café disappoints, it reminded me of a mall restaurant, or something at an airport. I really wanted something grand and more exquisite than a red and white themed “Mel’s Diner” kitsch. The gift shop needs postcards!! Otherwise, a fine museum, bigger and deservedly better👍🏼
Came during the grand opening of their expansion and wow, this place is finally worth it to visit. They've really increased their footprint and the amount of art and exhibits they can hold, and the art is next level and thought provoking. I loved the immersive experience where you sleep on a bed and stare at the moving art on the ceiling, as well as several new pieces that's held in their expansion arm. It's easy to spend 2+ hours here without realizing so keep track of time if you've got other booked activities in the city!
