More reviews on GoogleI’ve been getting most of my clothes at Katelyn’s Closet for many years now. I love the atmosphere and the people and the clothes that make me feel happy. 💗 I highly recommend shopping here!
I’ve found some cute pieces here over the last year. However, they have a pretty strict no return policy even when it’s their mistake. I bought an item and didn’t notice until I wore it that there were visible stains on the garment. I took it back (should’ve gone sooner) and there was apparently nothing they could do. I find this poor customers service. The item was $35, I would have appreciated a little more thoughtfulness. Plus they kept the item. On another (less offensive as I have consigned before and I know they are allowed to be picky) note, I brought items to consign and they only wanted one thing that was NWT. Everything was in good condition and the same brands they carry, so that was a surprise.
I will never understand how places like this stay in business. I wouldn’t normally post a negative review of a small business based on a negative personal interaction, but it so happens that my opinion of the store wasn’t otherwise very good, so here I am. This place aims to sell you only “upscale brands” but in reality, it’s just the items that correspond to the owner’s personal style. The selection is very poor. Shopping for kids’ things was particularly frustrating as there was barely one or two items in each size. Thus so I can’t understand how they’re so picky/snobby with what consignment to accept when their shelves are so bare. My biggest complaint of this place comes from how I was treated as a new consigner, specifically by the owner. On my first time dropping clothes, not a single item was taken. I was a bit shocked, because many of the items were brand new and nice brands. I came back once more, despite my better judgement, to see if they would accept three Nike/Underarmour women’s golf shirts in excellent condition, all branded from the pro shops of different golf courses. They were rather niche items that I was planning to personally sell, but wondering how I would go about it so I dropped them off for consideration. The policy at Katelyn’s Closet is that you drop off clothing and the next day you are supposed to return for your rejects or those things will be donated. There’s no way of telling whether or not your things are accepted until you show back up with the store the next day. (This is a terrible policy). I didn’t really understand this at the time, because the information wasn’t relayed that way. After my first drop off, I was called the next day to ask if I would be in to pick up my items. I came and picked them up, and then left my golf shirts. I told the person working there that I definitely wanted my shirts back if they were not taken for consignment. I never heard back! So, I figured they were accepted. Then two days later I started doubting myself because they had told me to show up at the store to check my items, but then called me after my first drop…. So I called to double check. I was told my items were sent for donation. When I spoke to the owner about this misunderstanding she was completely unapologetic, and even got very defensive with me. She repeatedly interrupted me during our conversation, aggressively telling me that I signed a paper that says “WE DO NOT CALL”, and then she texted me that proof. And it’s true, I did sign the paper. But that information was never verbally relayed to me. I was essentially called a liar when I mentioned that. My things were so so quickly donated, frankly it makes me suspicious that they were donated at all. Maybe she’s selling them online. I asked for a $25 store credit from the owner to compensate for the misunderstanding (a low ball for the value of my three shirts) but she replied “That’s a lot of money!!” and didn’t offer anything else. Needless to say, I won’t go again. And I wouldn’t recommend anyone else to go as I dont think your things will be respected.
Just posting in case this is a common experience - in which case - beware! I brought in a lot of designer items here as I just moved to the area and I was EXPLICIT they were NOT to be donated if rejected by the owner. I could not have been nicer or more clear. I asked if they would call me to pick up. "Oh, no, we do not call anyone" she said in a way that made it clear they were just too busy... but she told me to come in early the following week to pick up. Which I did. After a lengthy search in the closet I was told my items "must have been donated" and "we always ask people to come in the next day after they drop off items". The crazy part? It was the same gal. I am giving 2 stars because I did find a few amazing things as a buyer before I brought in my items but I'm out the clothes/write off I could have easily sold/donated myself. Let's see how getting the check for the items she kept goes, lol. Refinery in Oregon City is much better and is now more than worth the trek.
