This classic diner is a Multnomah Village staple. Everything on the menu is delicious, and I highly recommend a cinnamon roll if you want something sweet. There was a recent change in ownership, but the quality of food and service hasn’t changed a bit.

I was born and raised in the Multnomah Village neighborhood, and Fat City has been and always will be an iconic culinary landmark. It has truly stood the test of time. As a Wilson High School alumni, it would be wrong to not thank Fat City for getting me through bouts of senioritis and being my go-to place to skip 2nd period. Fat City > any class. I’m pretty sure I still have a student ID card buried deep under all the other photos and cards that cover the tables. Anyone leaving negative reviews regarding new ownership and management (or anything else really) can respectfully go kick rocks.

CHANGED OWNER IN JANUARY 2026- Not the same anymore. Apparently some guy from Chicago bought the place and is turning into I don’t even know what. I didn’t even realize there was a market for hotdogs in the village. I can’t think of anything more disgusting. I’ve been going to fat city since the mid 90s and I was happy with their menu. Happy with breakfast happy with knowing what I could get there. And now it’s gone. And some person from another state decided to bring what sold in their state into Multnomah village. I don’t think it’s gonna translate well. It’s not Chicago here. It’s Oregon. Matt, the new owner, literally said that he wasn’t going to change things. And that’s the first thing he did. And he didn’t change it just a little bit. He turn it into a whole different kind of food. Hotdogs are disgusting. Nobody here wants Sysco fries Sysco hot dogs and Sysco burgers. Take that to the beach. Maybe he thinks that because that city had a lot of fried food that it’s going to translate into a successful selling of hotdogs. No, we want our chicken fried steak and our hashbrowns and our eggs and our toast and our pancakes and her cinnamon rolls. I can’t believe that he’s trying to replace fat city with a hotdog joint. That is so disrespectful and so disgusting. I am so angry at this. I will never set foot in that shop again. Never. “Chicagoland” BFFR Don’t try to reinvent the Village.

Service was so friendly. Short wait, but well worth it!! Full-on diner atmosphere, so cool!! Loved the food!! Classic hash browns, bacon was thick and krispy yet soft, cooked to perfection and so flavorful, great over-easy eggs, and the biggest, fluffiest blueberry pancake!! My wife had a great Phiily cheese and potato salad side. My son had the Cowboy as he loves his gravy. And my daughter-in-law had the Fat City Sizzle. Fabulous food! Highly recommend you try this place!!
