The Academy is currently showing a charming mix of first run and classic content, so there's something for everyone. The ads for local businesses and trailers are shown at a mercifully moderate volume, and everything starts on time. We had a nice choice of drinks, served in sturdy plastic cups that fit beautifully in the cupholders. The Academy is a great neighborhood business - when our movie was over, we found the rear section of the lobby occupied by a pop-up with local artists displaying their creations. This section of Montavilla seems to be undergoing a renaissance for places to enjoy food and drinks. I suspect the Academy is the kind of anchor business that deserves credit for establishing a sense of place.

Reviews from Google
More reviews on GoogleThe Academy Theater is awesome. I'm so glad they survived the switch from film to digital as so many small theaters around the country did not. Still having a small community run theater is so important. I'm immune compromised and The Academy has hosted special viewings for our local group of people who still need to mask post pandemic in ordertobe safe. I normally don't get to do anything social with large groups. No church, concerts, symphony, parties etc. Their hosting these viewings where everyone is masked is such a special treat for so many of us. I highly doubt any national chain would be as accommodating. The Academy Theater may be a small theater, but they host first run movies, the staff is great, it is always clean and the seats are comfortable. It's hard to beat a good local, compassionate business in my book. I definitely recommend.
I saw The Running Man at the Academy Theater, and it was a great experience. The popcorn stood out the most fresh, warm, and buttery without being too greasy. The theater was clean, the staff was helpful, and the whole place had a relaxed vibe. It’s a solid spot if you want to enjoy a good movie and really good popcorn.
What a wonderful experience on this small old school theater! Customer service was superb. Prices for the food were amazing. I had a wonderful mint tea which was great for the cold weather. I highly encourage you to support this small business. Such a nice and unique experience.
This theater is super cool! It's in a pretty cute little neighborhood and has such a nice, nostalgic feel to it both inside and out. They play a lot of retro movies and show different ones every week. The showing rooms are small and a little bit dingy, but cozy. With the old movies, they show old trailers as well which can be a lot of fun. Prices are fair and affordable for both the movies and the snacks, and they also offer pizza and sushi as concessions. My partner and I went here for date night to see Airplane! and we are definitely planning on coming back to check out more retro films here. We had a lot of fun and it's very respectable what this place does.
